Today, we’ve seen the announcement of the preferred bidders for the national programme and the mind-boggling costs involved – £12 billion. Are we making the best choices?
If the point is to manage our energy (and water) consumption better, surely more needs to be done to help every business and household to take simple steps to cut use of electricity and water, even gas.
A national programme promoting effective tap aerators and eco shower heads would help – perhaps delivering reductions of up to 50 per cent.
LED lighting is also proven to cut electricity consumption by anything up to 90 per cent. Not every property will achieve these savings but there will be substantial reductions in every case.

Billions of Dollars Spent on Weakening US Electricity Grid and Economy

There’s really nothing smart about wireless “smart” meters. According to the report, billions of dollars in federal subsidies for “smart” utility meters have been misspent on meter technology that will simply NOT lead to energy sustainability or contribute to the possibility of a more efficient and responsive electricity grid.
