I feel that both the individual and the employer, no matter what the industry or skill set, benefit from education.

I realized this when I was a developer. I had been a developer for many years, but until I started taking the courses / exams, I realized that I knew “one” way to do something, whereas it might have been better to complete the task another way.

Something my Father always drummed into me as a child was “education, education and education” and it stays with me to this day.

I am a contractor and have to stay ahead of the game. I decided to change my role from being a technical consultant to becoming a Project Manager. Without a qualification, there would be no employer looking to take me on this competitive world, as it is now.

I challenge myself to take at least one exam per year, no more. However, feeling as I do regarding education, last year I took three exams and this year I took one BIG one… my PMP exam.
